In what many are describing as unbelievable, famed singer Gwen Stefani had a tough time navigating round one of this year’s celebrity spelling bee. After Nicolas Cage correctly spelled “range,” all eyes were on Stefani as the announcer grinned as he read her first word. Stefani seemed thrown off by the inclusion of the word “bananas” and asked for it to be used in a sentence. “This shit is bananas,” was all that she was given in an attempt to jostle the singers memory. It was to no avail however as Stefani included several extra n’s and a’s that just weren’t there.
After the show she was quoted as saying, “If only there was something I had learned as a child to remember some of the trickier words like a rhyme or a song then maybe I would have done better.”
Tournament favorite Aziz Ansari was bested in the final round after losing to some 12-year-old kid whose parents immediately collapsed and were rushed to the hospital for exhaustion. For his efforts, that some 12-year-old kid won bragging rights, $1000, and a signed copy of the 2004 platinum album Love. Angel. Music. Baby.
